ম্যাক এড্রেসের প্রথম অর্ধেক বুঝায় ডিভাইসটি কোন মডেল বা ব্রান্ডের আর বাকী অর্ধেকটি হচ্ছে ঐ ডিভাইসটি অনন্য বা unique নাম্বার। এটাকে মোবাইলের IMIE বা গাড়ির VIN নাম্বারের সাথে তুলনা করা যেতে পারে। আইপি এবং ম্যাকের মাঝে পার্থক্য এটুকু।
